Giethorn
Our journey continues and we get to Giethoorn. This is a fabulous town in the province of Overijssel. It is called “the northern Venice”. There are no streets, no cars. You can only use boats through the canals and go on foot along the narrow alleys. Giethoorn is a representative of Dutch typical landscape – lakes, canals, reeds, forests, farms, wooden bridges. In the summer the temperatures are 17 degrees maximum, so you have to get dressed, but the good thing is that due to the low temperatures, this season is like spring. Everywhere is green, beautiful and calm.
We recommend a boat trip, a walk and lunch in a local restaurant.
The boats are different kinds – motorboats, rowing boats, canoes. What they have in common is that they are all extremely quiet, which contributes to the relaxing atmosphere in Giethoorn. Our guide had rented a small motorboat for 8 people. Everyone in the boat had a chance to drive it.
There were a lot of ducks in the water around us, so bring something for them to eat.
